Commissioned as a response to Wakefield’s Herbal Histories project - these paintings were inspired by feedback reflecting on a humble past of homemade recipes and remedies from communities around the Wakefield area. 'House of Bread and Roses' focuses on a close knit family life centred around a palette of comfort foods. 'Just Get on With It' explores the community togetherness, sharing curative recipes and remedies. 'Make Do and Mend' highlights the familiar foods which powered the people behind industry in these working class environments.

'Collectively Isolated' series

Collectively Isolated explores a theme of social disconnection within the current climate, each painting highlighting nuances we all face in our daily lives which subtly add individual stresses. As the technological world advances we find ourselves simultaneously more connected with everyone, yet divided by steadfast views and loud voices. Workplaces implement stricter rules, brand standards and each their own set of values to adhere to, whilst machines and AI offer a separation between customer and organisation, providing a comforting shield of anonymity for companies, but depriving customers of an outlet for frustrations. As a collective, we all seem to be lost in the same sea of exhaustion feeling an intangible presence running through our lives confusing emotion and opinion and causing disconnection. This series intends to reconnect with imagery we can all relate to.

Fantasy Illustration

What originally began life as a satirical take on the political landscape, likening leaders to clown, soon evolved into a concept for a fantasy world called Miragae. The Harlequin characters have played many roles and who and what they are have been reinterpreted many times throughout the years, as well as through the course of Miragae's historical lore. I now hand over the Harlequin characters to my novelist partner to take them through new worlds, further re-imaginings and many more adventures. The Harlequin will return for Phase 2.
